About Us
Incorporated in 1894, today about 125 firefighters and support staff of the Palo Alto Fire Department provide life and property protection to the City of Palo Alto and the Stanford University communities. Generally, except during a few summer months, firefighters respond from seven fire stations. Serving an area of approximately 50 square miles with a resident population of around 60,000 that grows to over 125,000 each business day. An emergency response area that extends from the shoreline of San Francisco Bay west to Skyline Blvd at the crest of the coastal range.Our members have contributed to the fire service and communities far beyond the boundaries of our service area. Our members have trained a wide variety of firefighters and paramedics who serve throughout the western United States. Our current and retired members include some of the finest local fire officers, teachers and recognized labor leaders.
